The water is much higher this week; it must be all that melting snow. There's still some snow and ice in the woods, but it's competing with mud for space now.

The river is quite high, too. rushing waters )

I also found my first crocuses of the year!

blooming )

I celebrated the super full moon between the frog pond and the peeper pond. Oh! And I heard my first frog of the season! He was croaking away down by the storage yard. Hopefully soon the peepers will start singing. I'll have to go down there near sunset tomorrow. My feet have had quite enough for today.

Another lovely day spent stuck at the office. We had the windows and doors open again, and I went for a long walk on my lunch break, this time down to the bike path. Sneaker weather!

Look how warm it was! )

Scored a scanner, too. Will be scanning in old photos this weekend, rubbing my hands with glee. I downloaded the driver, and I'm set to go (I think; it's been a while since I scanned anything).

Happy weekend, happy full moon, happy spring equinox!

reveal, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I walked down to Grandmothers' Garden, where the snow is melting and things are coming up out of the ground. Yay!

greening )

I then walked down to the river, where the water is quite high.

swamped )

I walked along the dike for a ways, then back through town. In the window of a junk shop, I saw something that looked very familiar. I'm pretty sure this backrest is the one I sold at my tag sale last fall.

familiar )

I mean, how many of these can there be in Westfield? Especially in that particular shade of faded rose. That thing sat in my bedroom for many years. Several bedrooms, in fact. I had it a very long time.

It's day one of being totally thrown off by the time change. I had trouble getting to sleep last night, and it didn't help that I kept thinking of that lost hour. While I enjoy the later sunsets (going for walks after work comes to mind), I really hate having to reset my inner clock. I'm usually a zombie for a few days because of it. I don't dare take a nap, or I'll never get to sleep tonight.

I was chatting online with one of my cousins last night, and we revisited the idea of doing a family cookbook. I would love to do this, and I even volunteered to put it together. I thought doing it through Lulu would work, so nobody has to put out any initial cash and hope people contribute. Now all I have to do is get people to give me their recipes. *g*

We talked about how everyone has their version of Grandma's linzer torte, and swears that it's the original. She suggested we put everyone's version in there, and let people sort it out for themselves. I think that's the most diplomatic way to do it. ;)

The one I really want is Aunt Dorothy's potato salad recipe. It tastes exactly like I remember Grandma's tasting.

I'm a little afraid of what my Aunt Helen would send. It would probably have Cool Whip and lime Jell-o in it. ;)

Wish me luck! If I succeed, I'll offer it at cost, and anyone could purchase it. We have some fantastic cooks in the family. :)

snowdrops emerging, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I went down to the park to look for sings of spring, and I found a few. These snowdrops were buried beneath a foot of snow last time I was down there, and in a few days they will have flowers.

more signs )

The sidewalks are now free of ice and snow, but some of them have large puddles. The paths in the woods are still snow-covered, but mostly packed down enough to walk on. Mostly.

moving pictures )

It felt good to be outside and moving around. :)

it's coming

Spring is coming. See? Even the daffodils are impatient. The snow melted just days ago, and already they're reaching for the sun.

I've been having one of those days when everyone has a problem, and I'm the one who gets to deal with it. Even if they're not my customer. I just love those days. :P

At least it's nearly over.

wild lily, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

With a forecast of 90 degrees today, I figured I'd better get out early if I was going to go out at all. It was nice and cool in the woods and along the river, and I found signs of summer all over the place.

I hope you are all staying cool on this last weekend of spring!

I drove up to the park because I was worried about my toe. It seemed fine, so I just went for an extra-long walk once I got there. More flowers, more greenery, more spring!

spring is busting out all over )

It's not a brilliant nor warm day, but it's definitely springlike!

I love grape hyacinths. I found this little forest of them at the cemetery this evening. They're so cute, and so cheerful. I love how they escape their plantings and pop up a few feet away.

Also: the apple trees are starting to bloom. )

It's supposed to rain for the next couple/few days. It's just as well; I have a whole lot of reading and writing to do. I do hope there are at least a few rain-free daylight hours this weekend, though. I get cabin fever something fierce, especially when spring is in the air!

The pink crabapple tree at Heritage Park has exploded into bloom. This was going to be my photo of the day, until I walked down to Stanley Park after work and took this one )

I took several pretty pictures today, but this was my favorite. :)
