winter geese, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I've spent most of the weekend indoors, as it's suddenly winter here. Today it didn't get much above 20 degrees, with a wicked wind that sounded very cold. I did get out for a bit yesterday, walking down to the river where the geese floated serenely, unaware of what was coming.

It actually snowed a little bit overnight, just a dusting which got mostly blown away during the day.

I spent much of yesterday parked in front of the telly, watching Doctor Who. I loved the 50th Anniversary special, which I won't spoil for those of you who haven't seen it yet. I was clapping and grinning from ear to ear at the end. I'm going to see it in 3D at the theatre tomorrow night with a couple of friends, and I can't wait to see their reactions!

It's going to be a short workweek; we have three days off for Thanksgiving, which will be nice. But the pressure will be on for Monday and Tuesday to make sales, because it'll be the end of the selling month for us. Cross your fingers for me! I need all the luck I can get.

I decided to stay home for Christmas this year, for a variety of reasons. It's been a nice, quiet weekend; just what I needed. It's so nice not to be on the road today.

I took a walk around the neighborhood last night, looking at the lights. I walked down to the park and the woods today, where I saw the above owl. Now I'm baking cookies and watching "A Christmas Story" on the telly. Since the holiday is on a Sunday, I also have tomorrow off. No snow, but that's OK.

Of course, the best part is tonight: the Doctor Who Christmas special!

I hope all of you had a lovely holiday weekend, whether you celebrate Christmas or not. :)

drenched, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

It was a very damp and dreary day today. I had to go down to the bank this morning, and I walked since it's silly to drive less than half a mile. Parts of the sidewalk are ripped up in the ongoing construction downtown, so my feet got rather damp trying to avoid puddles. After some hot chocolate and dry socks, I felt much better.

It eventually stopped raining (mostly), so I walked over to the cemetery to see what was in bloom. Not a lot so far, but these tulips looked pretty all dotted with dew.

I'm looking forward to the new Doctor Who tonight. All in all, not a bad day, which is much better than expected. Rain and all. :)

snowing lightly, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

They're still predicting Snowmageddon, but so far all we've had here is light snow. I went out for a walk in it, and it was underwhelming to say the least. Hopefully, overnight we'll have more. I want real snow! Especially since I have nowhere I have to go until Wednesday.

I was very happy to find that the Doctor Who Christmas special was On Demand; I liked it a lot. Really fun.

I'm proud to say that I resisted spending the day in front of the telly, watching Doctor Who reruns. I did watch half of one episode while eating brunch, but I did more reading, and even got out of the house. Today was the meet & greet at B&N, and we even had three new people! Part of this was due to a conversation we had on the email list, asking if we should keep having them since the same four or five of us always show, but no one else. Then we moved to Facebook, and sent out invitations. It seems to have worked, at least for now! Yay for new people. We even talked about Pagan stuff. Will wonders never cease?

I caught my toe on the handle of a small shopping bag (which I know I tossed into the trash) this morning, landed on my knee, and hit my hip on the way down. What hurts? My toe! Ouchie. I don't think it's broken, because I can walk on it, but it twinges now and then when it bends. My body insists on reminding me now and then that I'm a klutz.

Mercury goes retrograde tonight, so remember to check the fluids in your car, and backup anything that you don't want to lose!

I'm very much looking forward to finally seeing the new Doctor this evening. I've heard good things about him. I even have popcorn. :)

frustration

I walked down to the park today, as the snow stayed closer to the coast and we had just a flurry, followed by overcast skies. I took a bunch of pictures, most of which I like, but my @#$%& computer is fighting with me again and it took me all day (with breaks for dinner and Doctor Who) to process and upload them. Grr. Also, my DSL is unreasonably slow, so a pox on Verizon as well. Argh.

today's pic )

I had hoped to go to the movies again, but I spent far too long with the pictures, so that must wait for another day. Perhaps tomorrow, if the weather isn't too bad.

I am sad to see David Tennant go, but I thought they did a nice job of sending him off. Farewell, Doctor. I enjoyed journeying with you.

The BBC has announced the new Doctor, the youngest ever. It'll be interesting to see how he does, although it'll be more than a year before we find out.

Neil Gaiman on Doctor Who as Hamlet, upon learning that David Tennant will be playing the role:

"To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?"

Brilliant. I can actually hear Tennant as I'm reading this. *g*

If you're in my area, there's a Wildflower Walk down at Stanley Park this afternoon at 2:00. Come and see what I've been talking about! It's really cool. :)

Wow, what a lovely afternoon! It was bright and sunny, and in the 40s, so I walked down to Stanley Park and wandered around. There were quite a few people out & about, and everyone was in a good mood due to the nice weather.

I found this awesome paper wasp nest in an apple tree near the herb garden. It was about 7 or 8 feet off the ground, so I held my camera up as high as I could and hoped for the best; the results were pretty good!

I went down to see the geese, and there were a lot of folks there, feeding them and the ducks. The swan was indifferent. A woman and her daughters actually brought cracked corn instead of bread, which was doubtless appreciated. The little girls stayed back, throwing handfuls of corn and squealing at the geese.

I had thought of going to the movies this evening, since nearly everyone else will be watching the game, but since the only person I could think of who also wouldn't be watching it ([livejournal.com profile] ami_1) is away, I think I'll just stay home and watch a DVD. I have Doctor Who from Netflix, and french bread pizza. Sounds like fun to me!

Speaking of Doctor Who, I had to giggle at the geek-out last night between all the SF fans at Imbolc. It was nice to be around other fans; hardly anyone at work has even heard of DW. I think Mike is the only one. I'm still waiting for Torchwood from Netflix; there's a long wait, they tell me. Boo. It's not worth the extra thirty or so bucks a month, though, to get digital cable.
