The day started out with rain, but by midmorning it had stopped and the sun came out, so I threw on some clothes and headed out to work on my Picture Westfield contribution. I headed up Western Ave. to catch some of the great houses up there. I turned down Tekoa and was surprised to find a pair of turkey vultures on the chimney of the first house I took pictures of.

DSCN9324

That was pretty cool.

I ended up at Stanley Park, and even though I know others will be taking pictures there, I have a few favorite spots they may miss so I took a few pix there.

I took some more house pix on the way back, then took a break for lunch and to upload what I took this morning.

I headed back out this afternoon, wandering around side streets in my neighborhood. I made friends with a few friendly cats, and spoke with a couple people whose houses I was taking pictures of. They thought the project was cool, and seemed happy I was including their homes in my picks for "cool houses in Westfield."

I even got a couple of cats on porches to add to my set.

I quit when I got the dreaded "Batteries exhausted" message, and the spares I had grabbed were dead. Oops. I got quite a few today though, so I'm off to a good start. I put the pix I'll be contributing into a new set on Flickr; you can watch my progress there. I want to make some mosaics from them, too.

Cross your fingers we get some good picture-taking weather on Tuesday!

tonight's sunset, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Sorry I haven't been around here much lately. I just haven't had many interesting things to talk about. I have been reading my flist, though.

One interesting thing that happened was that I signed up for something called Photograph Westfield, which is a project to photograph, you guessed it, Westfield for the archives at the library. I went to a meeting this week at the library, where I got instructions, release forms, and a spiffy name tag with a lanyard and everything. It should be fun. What I'd like to do is photograph houses, porches, and apartment buildings; my theme is "Where we live."

Today, I went down to the Colonial Harvest Day festival, also at the library. You can see my write-up of it here. I ran into one of the organizers of Photograph Westfield there, and we chatted about scouting out shots around town.

Other than that, I've had a pretty boring week. At least there have been some nice sunsets.

What a gorgeous day today. I had the windows open at the office all day, and pined away in my cubicle because I would so much rather have been outside, rambling around fields and woods.

I went for a long walk right after supper, heading down West Silver Street to look for [livejournal.com profile] morvenwestfield's grandparents' houses. Her grandfather's house is gone, but I found her grandmother's, on a street I'd never been down before. It's a nice little street, with woods and the river across from the house. I saw the above rainbow on the way there; a woman saw it too and ran into her house for her camera. We both took pictures of it. :)

There was a beautiful sky the whole walk home.

normal?

normal, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

I walked down to CVS to get vitamins (on sale!) and passed the old Normal School (now Westfield State, now in another part of town). I love all the little decorative touches; they just don't build 'em like that anymore.

...and an Indian )

I'm feeling pretty wiped out this afternoon. I think it's going to be a quiet night in, parked in the papasan with a book or maybe a movie. I just don't have it in me to go anywhere.

The snow they've been talking about all week looks like it's going to miss us tomorrow. You folks on the coast may get some, though. Enjoy it for me!

I had a rather long walk today, and even though it was still chilly, it felt good.

I did some wandering around town today, enjoying the beautiful October weather.

The sun is already setting, and tonight there's a frost warning. Yep, it's October all right!

neon martini, originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle.

Since it was kind of cloudy, I decided to wait until tomorrow to walk down to the park. Instead, I walked down to the library, and discovered that I had just missed the Penguin Plunge being held across the street at the town square. For some reason, they couldn't hold it at the lake this year, and I'm not sure how they managed to, you know, plunge. Whatever. It's a fundraiser for the Children's Museum, so I hope it was a success.

When I came out of the library, wonder of wonders, the sun had come out! Yippee! So I wandered downtown, taking pictures of bridges and churches and stuff.

Now, it's clouded up again. I guess I went out at just the right time!

Another snowstorm is expected tonight, but that's OK, because I have nowhere I have to go. It was a gorgeous, sunny morning, but really cold, so I waited until early this afternoon to go out. That was my fearless act for today; if you saw the state of the sidewalks around here, you'd understand. All that slush from the other day is frozen solid.

I walked toward downtown, and crossed over to take this picture of the door on the Westfield Woman's Club. That's where the local theatre group puts on its shows.

I'm glad I made it out, even if I had to bundle up to do so. Tomorrow I will likely have to dig out my car once again.

It's a bright, sunny day today, so I went for a nice walk. Instead of heading to my usual haunts, I walked downtown and over to the bridge, where they are building a second bridge to ease traffic.

Pictured is the old buggy whip factory door, from which Westfield gets its nickname, "Whip City." There's a shop in there now. There are a lot of great old buildings downtown, and a valiant (but possibly losing) battle is taking place to preserve and revitalize the area. It's too bad, really, because Westfield is a neat old city. I do really like it here.

It's so nice to see sunshine and blue sky!

Snowfire!

Well, OK, there wasn't any snow; not this year, at least. But I just got back from my town's Winter Solstice festival, Snowfire! While not as cold as the past two years, it was still quite chilly and I gave in to my frozen toes, abandoning the bonfire for some hot chocolate and the warmth of home. It was very cool to be celebrating one of my own holidays with a crowd of muggles (there were over 100 people there, I would estimate), who started howling as the bonfire was lit. Cool, and strange. Usually when I am around a fire of that size, there are drums and dancers in various states of dress (and undress). It was odd, but fun. :)
